Broadcast and Radio
Hub Radio
University radio, the voice of the students. Here I garnered over 100 hours of on air presenting, produced and directed livestreams of special events including Kickboxing Fight Night and Presidents Question Time Hustings and co-ordinated social media campaigns for the Student’s Union.
My passion project was my own radio show titled “the Dog and Gravey show” which was a mix of talking, special features and playing music for nine months weekly.
My radio career then elevated to the position of Vice President of the radio. My roles here included running the station, training students on radio equipment and how to produce a show, delegating tasks to the committee, communicating with and content creation/live-streaming for the Students Union, and most importantly inspiring students to be themselves and take that leap into self-expression.
Radio will always be a very proud part of me.
Broadcast Practice
As part of my degree, I directed a nine-man crew in a four hour broadcast of a poker match and a 7 hour Battle of the Bands night at the Student’s Union.
I designed the poker match to push myself and my team’s ability to implement industry standard broadcast practices. The talent consisted of four players, a dealer, a presenter, two commentators, an external interviewee and an “in-ear expert” who was live routed to an IEM hidden on one of the players. The format consisted of four table cameras, an overhead camera and three surround cameras. All this provided an excellent and entertaining insight into the poker match. All assets and the OBS livestream settings were created by myself to ensure originality and optimal streaming conditions.
I love to present and commentate, but the high-octane experience of directing livestreams is such a thrill and one that I will pursue further.
Livestream Specialist
My professional live-streaming career took the shape of directing and producing basketball match broadcasts for UWE Sport Performance. Including UWE’s own first Men’s and Women’s basketball team, I was also responsible for live-streaming the Bristol Hurricane’s home matches for a whole season.
Live sports broadcasting is enthralling. As well as constant ball tracking, ensuring to bring the audience into the atmosphere was a top priority of mine. Troubleshooting technical difficulties on the fly provided me the invaluable sense of calm in a stressful situation.
